Gays in the U.S. still forbidden from giving blood

I would really like some one in the FDA or the Bush Administration to explain this.

“The rules, drafted by the Food and Drug Administration, dictate that any man who has had just one sexual encounter with another man since 1977 is ineligible to donate.”

Some one’s sexual orientation should not be a concern when giving blood. If there is a concern with disease such as HIV, I would hope that the FDA was given the new from years ago, HIV is a disease that afflicts both homo and heterosexuals. I would also hope all the blood is screened for disease, no matter who gives it. What about the guys having sex with sheep?

justisengard dugg this:

Student body president Ronnie Childers was barred from donating blood at a Red Cross blood drive at Harbor High School in Santa Cruz, CA. The reason? He’s gay.

Bush Administration: Grand Canyon Created by Noah’s Flood

This is getting to the point of unbelievability. Are we on the verge of returning to the dark ages and book burning? I would hope that we could all agree geology utilized science and reason to determine it facts, theories and statements. If we are going to stop and censor science and provide the Christian view point on this, to satisfy that religion - they should be required to provide the view point of the other religions. What about the Muslim, Jewish, Buddist, etc. viewpoints on the Grand Canyon and geology in general. By suppressing scientific statements and promoting only a Christian viewpoint, is the Bush Administration not violating the First Amendment?

justisengard dugg this:

Grand Canyon National Park is not permitted to give an official estimate of the geologic age of its principal feature, due to pressure from Bush administration appointees. Despite promising a prompt review of its approval for a book claiming the Grand Canyon was created by Noah’s flood rather than by geologic forces.

Sociable - WordPress Plugin

While experiencing some Christmas vacation, I have had time to add some improvement to the blog. Just added the WP Plugin Sociable. I have seen several blog with the cool digg and del.icoi.us icons at the bottom of each post and though it would be cool to have them, just in case, one of posts every gets dugg. Now wouldn’t that be something. After installing the plugin, I discovered during the configuration that it included buttons for a lot more bookmarking/commenting/etc sites than I knew existed - other than the normal digg, del.icio.us, and Newsvine. Soo, I have been going through the list and checking them out.

Below are some comments on a one minute checkout of the websites for each and whether they will enabled on each blog article.

Eragon - oh such a bad movie

EragonFor those of you that are contemplating seeing the movie Eragon - please avoid wasting an hour and a half to two hours of your life that you will not get back. It is terrible, and I typically cut scifi/fantasy movies some slack. I have seen better B &C movies made for the SciFi Channel that were better. The CGI for the dragon was the only thing or any worth. I am not sure what the book plot is like, as I have not read it, but the movie plot is Star Wars converted into a fantasy movie. So much that I found myself with my mouth hanging open several times throughout the movie in a gasp. Ok, per the image above. In the center, Luke Skywalker, who is challenged with learning how to use the Force, or dragon magic in the movie. He is guided by an ex-Dragonrider on his left - Obi-Wan. He must save the Princess on his right. She is held captive by the evil guy on the far right. He is the evil king, and ex-Dragonrider that betray and hunted down all the elite Dragonriders - sounds a lot like Darth Vader - hello! To the right of the Princess is a rogue that joins Eragon in saving the Princess - abit like Han Solo.
….sigh…..

Tony Plutonium provides some additional details. (Worst. Dragon Movie. Ever.)

Take both of our advice - skip this movie.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer Trailer

Silver SurferWell I have to say I am a bit surprised that they are making a second Fantastic Four movie after the first one. It was, well, ok. The writing could have been better. So discovered on digg this afternoon, the trailer, first capture in the theater and posted on YouTube, and now released in HD on Apple trailers. The Silver Surfer looks to be all CGI, but cool nonetheless. The Silver Surfer arrived on the scene as the herald for Galactus - will be interesting to see how much they adapt and change the original plot.
Looks like next year I will be the year for superhero movies.

Red Hat: Earnings up, customers in, competitors out

It is always good to here that a stock you own is doing well. :-D
Especially when I read that big bad Oracle’s attempt to backstab RedHat is not doing so well.RedHat Logo

“One analyst (that had surveyed Oracle’s customer base) revealed that Oracle’s customers haven’t even been able to find how to buy “Oracle’s” Linux online, and have found it highly buggy. He speculated that Oracle may withdraw its Linux product from the market. (Red Hat didn’t comment, saying that it doesn’t waste time thinking about competitors - it’s focused on customers.)”

justisengard dugg this:

Red Hat knocked the ball out of the park again this quarter, especially in light of the competitive pressures from Microsoft/Novell and Oracle. I joined in the earnings call today, and was very impressed.
