Florida Congress Woman Says “All Terrorists Are Muslim”

This is America, the land of free speech and where everyone is entitled to their own opinion. In some cases, it entitles Americans to be stupid and for politicians to be self-serving. Notice that she did not get up on her soapbox until after she was re-elected. Deary, if you felt so passionate about this, where was you voice ‘before’ the election. The Muslin hating seems to be growing among Americans. Especially Christians, and most especially the self-righteous Christians. Christians, who seems to forget about a little stretch of their history called the Crusades. Wonder what the people of that era might have generalized about Christians.

Florida congresswoman Ginny Brown-Waite is defending muslim hatred, and Fox news actually gets it right for once and confronts her about it.

Frustrated with work?

I use to spend Sunday morning watching the political commentary shows (This Week & Meet the Press. However, I discovered that I could get more ‘real’ information from a combination watching The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and Google News. …and I got to listen to much less whining by stupid people.

Now I typically spend Sunday morning catching up on vidcasts, blogs, etc. (Unless Saturday night lead to activities that require recuperation - in which case the morning involves an immediate hot shower, lots of water and foods with lots of salt.)

This morning though I came across this - which I can definitely relate to, and probably think others can as well.

I recommend adopting the last message at the end of the video. …remember life is short…

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Digital Molecular Matter Tech Demo

Oh my, you have to check out the new engine for this game and then the demo for the game afterwards.
Talk about next generation. Wood breaks based on well it being wood and the direction the object crashing into it comes from. Then Storm Troopers have AI for self-preservations.

Speech Recognition - far from reality

Microsoft Vista LogoGot pointed to this by my friend Russell; the latest post on the Google Operating System blog. (Google operating System is in my feed lists - I am just a bit behind.)

Testing Vista’s Speech Recognition
Vista has speech recognition built in. Wow, wish i had realized that while I had it installed on my system. i would have checked it out….and possibly had a similar experieince to the video post in the blog link above.

I do like the way that Firefox worked much better than IE. When he gets to IE and he tried to spell a URL address. The Vista Speech Recognition cannot understand “press N” - to add the letter N. The guy has waaay more patience than I would have.

Linus fires latest shot in GNOME Wars

Never mess with the big man. ;-) Only in the open source world can you even think about having this type of discussion OR write your own code to do it ‘your’ way.

justisengard dugg this:

Some bad blood between Linus Torvalds and GNOME developers is flaring up again. Previously, Torvalds has said that Linux users should switch to KDE instead of GNOME. Now he has “put his money where his mouth is” by submitting patches to the GNOME Print Dialog in order to have it behave as he likes.

Songbird - Firefox for Media Players

Get Songbird
If you have not checked out Songbird - you should. Especially for anynone that like Firefox. It is built on the Mozilla platform…but for media playing. It supports extensions and themes (which are called feathers).

I have a 60GB iPod and use it for all my podcast subscriptions, etc. I have recently ripped all of my physcial CDs to MP3 to import into iTunes to be uploaded to my iPod. So I pretty much have all my audio stuff in iTunes. Upon installing Songbird, the intial installation had the option of installing several extensions (Itunes Library Import and Shoutcast Directory. After installation and the initial start of the application it found my iTunes library xml and asked it would like to import it. …and like magic, my iTunes library is available in Songbird. Cool. The other part I like is the .pls support, which iTunes does not provide - as I love Shoutcast. Songbird supports .pls and with the Shoutcast Directory extension, it will broswe the Shoutcast channels for me. I looked at some of the other extensions and it seems that Songbird supports MP3 devices, and there was an extension for an iPod. Might check that out too. It is also supported on Windows, Linux and Mac. Given I am considering purchasing a Macbook Pro, this is nice as well.

Get Songbird
Here is the featureset. As I said, check it out. I will update with opinions on the other features as I utilize them.

Just discovered a Songbird screencast as an intro for it. Very cool.

My Firefox Addons

Customize Google:
[CustomizeGoogle is a Firefox extension that enhance Google search results by adding extra information and removing unwanted information (like ads and spam).]
– I love this addon because it allows be to customize my Google application experience. It allows me to force the use of https on Gmail, Calendar, Docs & Spreadsheets, etc. It provides a privacy filter to avoid Google cookies and tracking, and it allows me to remove ads from Gmail and other Google pages. It is a must addon for any of my Firefox installations.

Google Toolbar for Firefox:
– I really like the Google toolbar. I am not sure why but the placement of the search bar works better for me on the lefthand side, than in the upper righthand side. Call me crazy…but UI functionality is all about what makes you more productive and intuitive. I get buttons for all my Google apps, News, GMail, etc. Something I just discovered is the Bookmarks. There does not seem to be another means of accessing them but through the Google toolbar. Basically it stores your bookmarks online and you access them through any google toolbar with Google Account authentication. Nice!

Email This!:
[Email This! (formerly known as GMail This!) will send your recipient the link, title, & highlighted text of the page you are viewing using GMail, Yahoo, and Stand-Alone Mail Clients like Outlook Express, Thunderbird, & More!]
– Ever find something on the web, and say to yourself, ‘I have to send this to xxx’ - well in one click you can.

Adblock Plus:
[Ever been annoyed by all those ads and banners on the internet that often take longer to download than everything else on the page? Install Adblock Plus now and get rid of them. Right-click on a banner and choose "Adblock" from the context menu - the banner won't be downloaded again. Or click Adblock Plus icon in the toolbar to see all elements of the page and block the banners. You can use filters with wildcards or even regular expressions to block complete banner factories.]
– Annoying ads - right click and block them. Nuff said.

Tab Effect:
Adds a cool effect to changing tabs.
del.icio.us:
— If you use Firefox, use del.icio.us, it is a must in my humble opinion. Gives me quick and easy buttons for My del.icio.us and Tag This button.

Google Mobile Apps Rock

I have been a huge fan of Google applications for a while now. Been using GMail for over a year now and love it. With the addition of Google Calendar, Reader and Docs & Spreadsheets…it is fantastic. If you do not know what I am talking about, go directly (do not pass Go, do not collect $200), to the links above and check it out. Seriously…go now…

The good folks at Google have provided mobile versions of several of these applications. Google Mobile = GMail, Google Maps, Google News, Search and Google Reader.

I have a Nokia 6620 cell phone and data access through Cingular. Have install the GMail and Maps app, the others are simply access via a mobile specific web page. Now, as long as I have a data connection with my cell phone, I can check out any new emails, use Google Maps to find out where something is, catchup on any new blog posts via Google Reader.

While just reviewing something for this post, discovered Google SMS and Blogger as well. With Blogger, you can post those latest camera phonephotos to your blog immediately. SMS allows you use text messaging to get info from Google, such as local info, weather, etc. You simply seed a text message to 466453 (Google), such as ‘weather NYC’ or weather and your zip code. I just did this for the weather with my zip code. I got back the current weather and the forecast for the next several days. According the the Google SMS help site, you can get local listings, for businesses, sports, movies, stock quotes, driving directions, currency conversions, etc. This is great!

Obviously you want to have a text messaging plan for your cell phone . I learned this the hard two years ago, when I first got my Nokia (my first phone with text messaging). The good folks at Cingular charge 10 cents per text messaging (sending and incoming). I was not a happy camper with that first bill.
