Bush wants Phone Firms immune to Privacy Suits

Is there anything the Bush Administration will not do? Really, I think that is a valid question.
The Bush Administration asks the telcos to break the law and illegally provide them with information, and now that citizens are suing them, the Bush Administration wants Congress to pass a law make them immune to any and all prosecution from those illegal actions. What?!?

The proposal states that “no action shall lie … in any court, and no
penalty … shall be imposed … against any person” for giving the
government information, including customer records, in connection with
alleged intelligence activity the attorney general certifies “is, was,
would be or would have been” intended to protect the United States from
terrorist attack. The measure, which has not yet been filed, is
contained in a proposed amendment to the fiscal 2008 intelligence
authorization bill.
Bush Wants Phone Firms Immune to Privacy Suits

What country do we live in now in which we allow this sheer arrogance and level of incompetence in our government?

The difference between dogs & cats

Just saw this on Veronica’s blog.  If you have ever been the captor of a cat or both at the same time, you should find this hilarious.

“Excerpts from a Cat’s Twitter”
Day 983 of my captivity. My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre
little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the
other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although
I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must
eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that
keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I
once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their
feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it
clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made
condescending comments about what a “good little hunter” I am. There
was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in
solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could
hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was
due to the power of “allergies.” I must learn what this means, and how
to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my
tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try
this again tomorrow — but at the top of the stairs. I am convinced that
the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives
special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more
than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The bird has got to
be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I
am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged
protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now…

Btw, tweets are posts on Twitter.

Open & Interoperability at Microsoft - What?!?

OMG…what is going on over there at Microsoft?

“Open” and “interoperable” are the new watchwords at Microsoft, at
least as far as Silverlight is concerned, according to company
executives. Microsoft Chief Software Architect Ray Ozzie
opened Mix07 with a discussion of the “comprehensive sea change” going
on at Microsoft as the company moves beyond a focus on pure software
toward his “software plus services” vision.Microsoft Embraces Macs and Interoperability at Mix07

Ok, I will hold my breath and look to see just what you can do as the new Chief Software Architect. Fingers are crossed.
Couple of requests though:

  • Port OneNote to OSX (Mainly so I do not have to hear some friend’s incessant whining all the time about it.)
  • Get onboard with open competition with VMware rather than this childish licensing policy crap.
  • Use the same logic and reasons for making Silverlight open and interoperable and open DirectX.
