World of Warcraft (WoW Dominates all MMO Gaming

I saw a post on Slashdot stating: “WoW - the Game That Seized the Globe“. World of Warcraft LogoFor those that do not game online and have been living under a rock, WoW (World of Warcraft), release in November 2004, has almost 7 million subscribers. That is almost 7 million people paying approimately $15/month. Now that is a damn profitable business. The ariticle references a New York Time article as well. I did not read it due to the NY Times website requiring me to give them an email address and sign up. Not that I am morally opposed it this, I am just lazy. ;-)
Jinx Warcrack TShirtWhat I did find interesting is that the article stated that MMOs are huge in Asia and that most Asian players are paying by the hour. WoW is typically played hours on end, typically four being a minimum. In the comments below the post, some posted a link to a graphic showing just how WoW has dominated all other MMOs. (MMO Active Subscriptions) Linage is a distant, and I mean distant second. WoW having around 6.5 million and Lineage peaking at 2.5 million back in January. 4million is a bit of a difference. As you will discover as this blog develops, I am a huge fan of WoW, having played since it was released. I will agree it is rather addictive. However, I do not miss any meals due to it and I have a life - but I do have a t-shirt that reads - “Warcrack - my anti-job”. ;-) If you want one, check out Jinx.com.
