NFL eyeing team in Toronto? CFL boss thinks so

It is about time the NFL decided to do something about the crappy Buffalo Bills.  Indeed, move them to Toronto, but please, oh please change the name. Leave the ‘Bills’ in Buffalo.  in my opinion, any team that looses four SuperBowls needs to be dis-franchised anyhow.

justisengard dugg this:

CFL commissioner Mark Cohon believes all signs point to an NFL team being placed in Toronto. It’s the first time the league has taken such a definitive stance on the subject…

NC State loses the ACC Tournament - barely

ACC Championship 2007Most of my friends know I am a NC State Alumni. I was a rabid college basketball fan growing up and all through college, but after graduation, I rarely follow it. This year has been no different. However, over the past several days I found renewed interest, with State’s successful.

It started when I discovered the NC State beat Duke. For those that do not know me - I detest Duke. Then I discovered that NC State was the underdog and not favored to win, in fact they were the ranked 10th in the conference. To provide evidence that I have not followed local college basketball or the ACC in a while - I was surprised to discover that the ACC now includes Boston College, Miami, Florida State, etc. When did this happen? (but I digress…) So, learning that State had beat Duke, I kept my eye on the scores, and noticed that - OMG - NC State had made it in the Championship. I was not really surprised that much to discover that they would play Carolina. Well, I have to watch the game now. While looking up the game time, I also discovered that NC State was now coached by Sidney Lowe - a player under Jim Valvano.

So, at 1Pm today I had junk food in hand in front of the TV ready for the game. …and what a game it was. Except for the last two minutes of the first half, State was slugging it toe to toe with 1st place Carolina. Throughout the game, I developed a hatred for the red-headed kid with the Hannibal Lecter face-mask on Carolina. I forget his name. (I am sure my friend Tony Plutonium knows him by heart, and can possibly quote some stats.) It was a great game right down to the end. The Wolfpack came back from a 12 point deficet, and had a chance to gain the lead — but alas it was not meant to be. (The deep pockets of the Carolina Alumni paid off the basketball gods. ;-)
It was a great game though, and given Sidney Lowe is the new Head Coach, I just may have to follow State basketball more closely in the future.

Colts Win - Commercials Suck!

I was glad to see Payton Manning finally get a Super Bowl win, if nothing else to end the endless comparisons with Dan Marino. (Great quarterback, hall of famer, but never a Super Bowl ring.) However, the game was practically over at half time. If Rex Grossman has decided to have a decent game, as he did against the Saints…well it might have been a different game entirely.

The half time show was good - but what do you expect - it was Prince. Nuff said there. I do think the camera folks discovered that rain can present a problem, and that mother nature does not care whether the Super Bowl is happening or not.

Lastly, with much of the game over at half time, I sat with anticipation of the famous 2 millon dollar a pop Super Bowl commercials. To put it bluntly…they sucked! (That is a technical term.) For one almost all of them were Bud Light commercials, obviously Budweiser has plenty of money. Some were just stupid, and others were reruns of current commercials. I propose a new regulation, law or whatever, for all Super Bowl commericals. If they are going to charge 2 million dollars per commercial, at least require that they be new. The best one, IMHO was the GoDaddy commercial. Now I do have to give koodos to the Doritos Super Bowl commerical, as it was done my folks in my hometown area. For those familar with Waverly Place in Cary North Carolina, they will recognize where it was filmed. None were really exceptional. Oh well maybe next year…

Colts and Bears in the SuperBowl

Chicago BearsIndianapolis ColtsSo the Colts finally won a championship game, and it was against their nemesis the Patriots. Payton Manning finally got the monkey off his back. I was pulling for him throughout the entire game.

I was originally hoping for a Chargers/Saints SuperBowl last week. But the Chargers practically gave the Patriots the game. As you can tell, I am not a Patriots fan, not since they stole the Superbowl from the Panthers several years ago. I am a long time Steelers fan, since the 70s when Bradshaw was the QB. …and yes, I was a very happy camper last year.

I was pulling for the Saints, hoping that they could pull it off, but they just could not get it together. It would have been nice, and the icing on the cake of a great season if the Saints could have made it to the SuperBowl. Talk about coming a long way from only winning 3 games last season, granted not having a home might have had a wee-bit to do with it. New coach, new QB, and first time ever in a championship game. Going to the SuperBowl, and maybe even winning, would have been a true Cinderella story. Similar to the Carolina Panthers, second season in exisitance going to the NFC Championship game, and almost going to the SuperBowl as well. But alas…it was not meant to be.

Soo, we have the Bears and the Colts in the SuperBowl. Being a long time AFC fan, as well as wanting to see Payton Manning get a SuperBowl win - I will be pulling for the Colts. Never liked the Bears to begin with - not even in 85-86. Hopefully this does not create another monkey for Payton’s back - getting to the SuperBowl and loosing repeatedly
